Government approves emergency usage of two vaccines and one antiviral pill for COVID-19.

Union health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday announced that the Government has approved for the emergency use of 2 vaccines ( Covovax and Corbevax) and an antiviral pill Molnupiravir for the treatment of COVID-19. He stated “Further strengthening the fight against Covid-19, the Central Drugs Standard control organisation (CDSCO) has given approvals for Corbevax and Covovax vaccines and antiviral drug Molnupiravir for restricted use of in emergency situation.”

Corbevax vaccine made by a Hyderabad based firm Biological-E is the first indigenously developed RBD protein sub unit vaccine in India while Pune based firm Serum Institute of India (SII) manufactures the nanoparticle vaccine Covovax. The antiviral drug Molnupiravir will be produced by 13 companies and utilized for restricted use under emergency situation for the treatment of adult patients and patients with high risk of progression of the disease.
